We live at a point in time when the pace of life and work conspire to take any free time we might have away from us.  This high velocity lifestyle has no signs of abating and so it is up to us to manage the cadence of our lives.  This includes taking care of the most important thing in your life-you.  It is often said that if you don’t take care of yourself you will have nothing left for others.

So how do you create this work-life integration such that you are embracing the velocity while keeping yourself vital?

It has been soundly proven that resolutions and long range complicated plans do not work.  What does work is taking your vitality one day at a time.  It starts with very small changes that you can integrate into your life now.  Whether it is 10 minutes of exercise a day, a short meditation practice and other rituals that you can integrate without huge lifestyle changes.

The best rituals are short, easy to accomplish and fit with your lifestyle now.

The other very important element is that you schedule these rituals in the same manner that you schedule meetings, and protect them as you would a work meeting.  Calendaring your rituals is so critical.  If it’s not on your agenda, it likely will not happen.

Most importantly, live in the moment and take one day at a time.  In this way you will build new habits without getting too far ahead of your goals.

In this high velocity world you deserve to be vital.  Make it a habit for 21 days and watch some important changes occur.
