We live in a world that has more demands than we can meet, often leaving us “wrung out” and not fully present at work and home. Most research now tells us definitively that a simple mindfulness practice has many benefits: better cognitive thinking, a calmer demeanor when dealing with stressful situations, even better sleep. A practice can be done before or after highly charged situations in as little as 5 minutes. It can involve breathing, visualization, even a short meditation. There are several apps that can guide you through a mindfulness practice, or you can use a coach. It is important that you calendar out the times you will “unplug” and complete a practice until it becomes a habit. Mindfulness is one of the most powerful tools you can have for life’s high velocity pace. Make it a habit and notice what happens.
